The European Migration Network (EMN) has published a new inform titled “Currently applicable asylum procedures at the border in view of implementing the Pact on Migration and Asylum.” Based on contributions from 25 EMN National Contact Points, it provides a comparative overview of how border procedures are currently applied under the Asylum Procedures Directive (2013/32/EU), ahead of the mandatory border procedure to be introduced by June 2026.

The European Migration Network (EMN) and the OECD have published a new joint study entitled ‘Labour migration in times of labour shortages’. The publication draws on contributions from EMN Member and Observer Countries, including Serbia, as well as from OECD countries that are not members of the European Union. The study provides an overview of legislation and policies in the field of labour migration and presents specific initiatives and practical measures (covering the period 2021–2024) that countries use to address current labour shortages. It also focuses on tools that can help prevent future challenges in the labour market.

The Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, as a member of the European Migration Network (EMN) Slovakia, welcomed representatives of public administration, the non-governmental sector and the private sector in Bratislava to a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Labour Migration and the Integration of Foreigners (MEKOMIC). Discussions focused on the current state of labour mobility, the integration of foreign workers in Slovakia, and proposed activities in these areas.

The EMN Slovakia National Conference Sustainable Labour Mobility in Action: Bilateral Pathways for a Prosperous Slovakia, which took place in Bratislava on 11 November 2025, initiated a discussion on how Slovakia can respond to labour shortages in key sectors through regulated, predictable and mutually beneficial bilateral partnerships with countries outside the European Union. Held under the auspices of the State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, Mr Marián Valentovič, the event brought together 80 participants and 13 speakers from 16 countries – policymakers, migration experts, employers, representatives of public administration, embassies and international organisations.

Is it possible to improve the care system for applicants for international protection and temporary protection holders with serious health conditions when they are accommodated in the reception facilities of the Slovak Republic? This question was at the centre of the December meeting of the European Migration Network (EMN) Slovakia in Bratislava, attended by representatives of public authorities, local governments, NGOs, research bodies and international organizations.
