International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the EMN coordinator for Slovakia organised the 5th EMN Educational Seminar on Migration entitled “Addressing the needs of forced migrants in the 21st century” which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia on 3 - 5 July 2017. The seminar welcomed 17 experts from international organisations, institutions and non-governmental organisations who lectured about migratory trends and international governance, enhancement of safe and legal pathways for migrants, protection of migrants, and empowerment of refugees of the 21st century. 

On 16 and 17 February 2017, International Organization for Migration (IOM) as a coordinator of EMN activities in Slovakia organised a coordination meeting in Piestany. The meeting was attended by representatives of the EMN National Contact Point, its Steering Board as well as non-governmental organisations active in migration and asylum. The aim of the meeting was to exchange information about current or planned activities and projects of these actors in migration and asylum in 2017 and 2018, as well as to discuss possible cooperation, synergy and their mutual contribution to each other’s activities.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the coordinator of the EMN National Contact Point for the Slovak Republic organised a National EMN Conference on the Role of Municipalities in the Integration of Refugees held in Bratislava on 23 March 2017.

On 13 October 2016, Swedish Ministry of Justice together with the Swedish Migration Agency organized an EMN conference entitled Resettlement in Sweden and Europe – What Works?. Different national approaches and initiatives in this field were compared during the conference, information on the Swedish resettlement program was provided, and possible ways forward, such as a common Resettlement Framework for the EU and the project EUFRANK (Facilitating Resettlement and Refugee Admission through New Knowledge) were outlined.

On 15 December 2016, EMN National Contact Point for Ireland organised the EMN National Conference entitled Responding to the Refugee Crisis. The conference was held in Dublin and the speakers discussed good practices and challenges in relation to the current migration situation in Europe.
