Migration Office of the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic and International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the members of the National Contact Point of the European Migration Network (EMN) for the Slovak Republic organized a thematic meeting “Current practical information for people with temporary protection” that took place on 30 and 31 May 2023 in Ružomberok. The meeting provided space to share experience on procedures, good practices and challenges related to integration of people from Ukraine as well as planned legislative amendments in the area of residence permits and integration.
Participants got familiar with the current information on temporary protection in the competence of the Migration Office and Foreign Police as well as with the services provided by the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. They also got information on health care provision to temporary protection holders and on integration of children into the school system. Practical information on legal services provision was shared by the Centre for Legal Aid. A representative of the Office of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region shared practical experience on the integration of refugees at the local level. The discussion was enriched by the outcomes of the ongoing research of the Comenius University on the problems of refugees from Ukraine in Slovakia based on the data collected from the Ukrainian groups on social media.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Migration Office of the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, Bureau of Border and Foreign Police of the Presidium of the Police Force, Office of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region, Centre for Legal Aid, non-governmental organisations Tenenet and Slovak Humanitarian Council, Faculty of Philosophy of the Comenius University and IOM Slovakia.
The meeting was a follow-up to the previous meeting on the integration of people from Ukraine that was organized by EMN Slovakia in October 2022.
