On 20 April 2023 European Migration Network (EMN) participated in an educational event for students of the Grammar School in Púchov on the topics of migration and misinformation together with Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the UN Youth Delegate of Slovakia. Representatives of International Organization for Migration (IOM) within the activities of the EMN in Slovakia prepared a workshop for students on the educational activity Destination Europe.
Destination Europe is an interactive learning tool about migration and integration aimed at stimulating young people in the discussion and learnings about contemporary issues in today’s Europe.
The role-play allowed students to step into the shoes of a minister, European Commissioner, mayor or representative of an NGO and take decisions that influence the creation of migration and integration policies, as well as the lives of three specific migrants: Yulia, Ahmed and Sunil.
The students reflected upon the dreams and hopes of the main protagonists of the educational activity and immersed themselves into discussions regarding migration policy decisions at different levels such as European, national and local level and observed the impacts of their decisions on different groups of migrants as well as the society where migrants settle.
EMN Slovakia organizes workshops on the topic of migration as part of which students can try the educational activity Destination Europe. The workshop is divided into two sessions of 1,5 hours each, but the duration can also be adjusted according to the needs of a school or class. The workshops are free of charge.
