8th EMN Educational Seminar on migration offers three public events

21 August 2021

We are pleased to invite you to the public events that we have prepared as part of the 8th EMN Educational Seminar on Migration: Migration in a Multilateral World. You will have an opportunity to watch the online discussion with experts on how Slovakia helps migrants and refugees. We will also present two films on migration and international protection themes in the Kino Lumière in Bratislava.

On Tuesday, 24 August, at 1 pm an online discussion How Slovakia helps migrants and refugees? will take place. The discussion with experts on migration policies in Slovakia and about the assistance to vulnerable people around the world can be watched at the YouTube Channel of IOM Slovakia.

The second event will be the film screening of Midnight Traveler on Tuesday at 8 pm in Kino Lumière in Bratislava.

About the film Midnight Traveler:
When the Taliban puts a bounty on Afghan director Hassan Fazili's head, he is forced to flee the country with his wife and two young daughters. Capturing their uncertain journey, Fazili shows both the danger and desperation of their multi-year odyssey and the tremendous love shared between them.

2019, 1h 27min, English and Slovak subtitles, trailer: here, director: Hassan Fazili

On Wednesday 25 August at 8 pm in Kino Lumière we will introduce the Slovak premiere of the German film Gleis 11 (Track 11). After the film a short (pre-recorded) interview with the director will follow.

About the film Gleis 11:
Gleis 11 tells five parallel stories about Germany’s first generation of labour migrants and their untold stories. Surrounded by unwavering optimism the film recounts their dreams, expectations, and hopes from the very beginning until today. When Director Çağdaş Eren Yüksel originally wanted to get to know his grandfather, he finally met an entire generation instead. The film will be followed by a pre-recorded interview with the director.

2021, 1h 07min, Slovak subtitles, trailer: here, director: Çağdaş Eren Yüksel

Entry for both film screenings is free. Tickets will be available at Kino Lumière before the screening from 4.30 pm.
