On 13 October 2015, International Organisation for Migration (IOM) as the coordinator of the EMN activities in Slovakia organised in Bratislava, at the occasion of the EU Anti-Trafficking Day, a joint meeting with the journalists. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic, IOM and other non-for-profit organisations – Human Rights League, Slovak Catholic Charity and People in Need Slovakia which seek through their activities to eliminate the crime of human trafficking, to help its victims, and to contribute to prevention.
The aim of the meeting was to draw attention of the wide and professional public to this phenomenon of the modern slavery which has a cross-border character and which concerns countries of origin, transit as well as destination. Combatting trafficking in human beings requires coordination not just at the national level but also at the European and international one in order to effectively act in the area of prevention, returns and assistance to the victims, their further reintegration and, last but not least, in detection of this crime. Apart from the discussion, the organisations participating in the meeting presented their activities in this field and the EMN outputs were distributed.
