On 6 July 2012, a representative of the EMN National Contact Point (NCP) in the Slovak Republic participated in London at a joint British and Italian EMN NCPs workshop entitled International Students in the UK and Italy: latest evidence and policy perspectives.
This one-day event was focussed on international students from third countries and aimed to capture, compare and contrast the latest evidence and policy perspectives on international students in both EU Member States. Governmental and academic employees as well as students took part in the meeting.
International students represent one of the most significant aspects of the migration phenomenon in general and mobility in particular, especially for their potential impact on competition and the creation of intercultural societies. United Kingdom is an example of a country with a large number of international students from third countries (298 110 in 2010) and Italy is an example of a country with a relatively small number of international students from third countries (although between 2003 and 2012, the presence of international students in Italy increased by 160 per cent - from 25 246 to 64 704).
Further information about the meeting including presentations can be found on Italian and British EMN NCPs websites.
