Labour offices from all over Slovakia, together with the Ministry of Labour and the National Labour Inspectorate, discussed the current situation and legislative changes in the employment of foreigner nationals from non-EU countries at the EMN Slovakia meeting in November. Special attention was paid to mutual coordination and different ways of illegal work and illegal employment of foreign nationals.
The meeting gathered more than 60 participants, among whom were mainly employees of labour offices dealing with the agenda of foreigner nationals as well as their methodological experts focusing on the electronic employment services system. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family Office, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic and the IOM Migration Information Centre.
The goal of the meeting was to share information and discuss the implementation of the Employment Services Act in the field of employment of non-EU nationals, following legislative changes effective from July 15, 2024. Current labour migration issues arising from practice and planned changes to legislation or internal regulations were also discussed.
IOM introduced EMN Slovakia’s upcoming activities, planned publications on labour migration, illegal employment, and the international aspects of counter-trafficking efforts. The event also highlighted learning opportunities in migration, including the EMN Destination Europe training tool.
The Thematic EMN Slovakia Meeting, "Legislative Changes in the Employment of Third-Country Nationals Post-July 15, 2024, in Application Practice," was held in town Ružomberok on November 5–6, 2024, organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the coordinator of EMN Slovakia and by the Central Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family.
