The new joint EMN-OECD Inform provides an overview of the potential for digital technologies and artificial intelligence to support the management of migration, acquisition of citizenship, asylum procedures and border control.
Over recent years and following the increased use of digital technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, EU and OECD Member States have or plan to enhance the deployment of digital services in a number of areas related to migration and asylum.
The Inform tries to respond to the question to what extent could digital services support migration and asylum management. It focuses on specific areas in the asylum, migration and acquisition of citizenship procedures, and border control management, where digital technologies, artificial intelligence or even blockchain technology may be used.
It maps already existing or planned measures in the countries in question in this area and at the same time takes into consideration the related issues of fundamental rights implications, including data protection.
