Invitation to online film screening of One Way Ticket and discussion on helping refugees, 11 November 2020

We invite you to watch the documentary film One Way Ticket that tells a story of refugees who are facing a huge life change. Join also an online discussion about life in a refugee camp and how also we can help them. The film as well as the discussion will be available online during the One World Festival on 11 November 2020.

Online screening of the film One Way Ticket (11 November 2020 from 12.00 noon, available for 24 hours)

The film tells a story of two friends who spent 20 years in a refugee camp in Uganda. Their hope for a better life has come true. Jean-Pierre, his wife and children and 84-year-old mother prepare to leave Kyangwali camp to move to the US as part of a resettlement program. A charismatic musician Isaiah hopes to go there to medical school.

The two friends and family await a major life change. The film is an account of their dreams and aspirations, and of the everyday struggles and alienation they experience in a foreign land.

Film is screened in English with English subtitles.

Online discussion One way ticket, or what resettlement is and how it works (11 November 2020 at 6:00 PM)

Miroslava Pinková from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Zuzana Vatráľová from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will discuss the life in a refugee camp and foremost the assistance to refugees through their resettlement to safe countries.

Discussion will be in Slovak language.
