It presents an overview of (Member) States policies and practices concerning safe countries of origin. It describes which countries have introduced a list of safe countries of origin and whether nationals from these countries are treated differently than nationals from other countries in the asylum procedure. Moreover, differences relating to reception conditions and return provisions are examined.
This EMN inform summarizes the key findings of the EMN Synthesis report on the effectiveness of returns in the EU. It provides an overview of the impact of EU rules on return and related case law from the Court of Justice of the European Union – on Member States’ return policies and practices and hence on the effectiveness of return decisions issued across the EU. It also outlines the challenges encountered by Member States in effectively implementing returns, as well as identify any good practices developed to ensure the enforcement of return obligations.
