This EMN Inform presents the main outcomes of the EMN Study on Practical Measures for Reducing Irregular Migration, which provides an overview of existing approaches, mechanisms and measures to reduce irregular migration to the EU and Norway as well as information on bilateral and multilateral cooperation of these countries with other EU and third countries in this area.

This EMN Inform complements the Commission's 3rd Annual Report on Immigration and Asylum. It provides a short overview of the main developments which took place in the EU in 2011 in response to the increasing migratory pressures, particularly in relation to six strategic priority areas of the EU Action on Migratory Pressure – A Strategic Response. The information on national developments is also based on the EMN National Annual Policy Reports 2011. 

This EMN Inform presents a summary of the main findings of the analysis of migration and international protection statistics for the year 2009 based on the contributions from the EU Member States included in their national EMN Statistics Reports for 2009. The statistics were compiled in accordance with the Migratory Statistics Regulation 862/2007.

The statistics were for the first time analysed on the basis of data gathered in accordance with the Migratory Statistics Regulation 862/2007.
