On 12 January 2018 in Bratislava, Slovakia, International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized a cluster meeting on elaboration of EMN study specifications about integration measures in the labour market for persons from third countries. Representatives of EMN National Contact Points who proposed the study (Slovakia, Croatia and Lithuania) as well as other members of the preparatory group (Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, EMN service provider and European Commission).

The participants discussed the form of each study chapters which deal mainly with integration policies and measures directly linked to the labour market, as well as with private sector activities in this field.

EMN will elaborate the study with a working title Integration Policies for Third-Country Nationals across EU Member States and Norway with Focus on Labour Market Integration Measures in 2018.

On 25-26 October 2017 International Organization for Migration (IOM), as the coordinator of the EMN National Contact Point for the Slovak Republic organised, together with the  Bureau of the Border and Alien Police of the Police Force Presidium, a small scale meeting in Malatiny for the representatives of selected institutions/bodies active in the field of law making and implementation of legislation related to legal and irregular migration of third-country nationals to Slovakia. The meeting was attended by 27 participants.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the EMN coordinator for Slovakia organised the 5th EMN Educational Seminar on Migration entitled “Addressing the needs of forced migrants in the 21st century” which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia on 3 - 5 July 2017. The seminar welcomed 17 experts from international organisations, institutions and non-governmental organisations who lectured about migratory trends and international governance, enhancement of safe and legal pathways for migrants, protection of migrants, and empowerment of refugees of the 21st century. They presented, among other, experiences from the West Africa, Middle East and Afghanistan. The programme included also two public evening events: a film screening of “The Good Lie“ movie about Sudanese refugees resettled to the USA, and a discussion with documentary screening “Refugee camp, my home“ about the dire conditions which refugees face.

On 4 July 2017, EMN organized a public discussion evening entitled Refugee camp, my home which welcomed more than 100 visitors. The discussion was preceded by screening of the documentary film Salam Neighbor together with a video message from the directors Chris Temple and Zach Ingrasci.

EMN organized a public screening of the Hollywood film The Good Lie about Sudanese refugees resettled to the United States. More than 100 visitors came to Kino Lumière in Bratislava on 3 July 2017 to watch the film inspired by true stories of “Lost Boys of Sudan”.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the EMN coordinator for Slovakia has organised several small scale meetings on various topics with the representatives of Slovak state institutions.
